1 in 5 Women Smoke & Drink During Pregnancy

When we heard about a California woman who was refused a glass of wine by her waiter while out for dinner, we couldn’t help but wonder how many pregnant women give up their guilty pleasures all together during pregnancy.

In a study from the Center For Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality, we see the breakdown of substance use during pregnancy by race. We were shocked to see that 1 in 5 women smoke while they’re pregnant!

And a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey found that 1 in 13 pregnant women in the U.S. drink alcohol. And among the pregnant drinkers, 1 in 5 women admitted to going on at least one binge — having four or more drinks at once.

What?

A study that came out a month later stated that drinking during pregnancy has long-lasting effects on children’s size. And not to mention the devastating realities of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

But don’t blame the youth! Pregnant women ages 35 to 44 were the biggest drinkers.

On Celebrity Baby Scoop, we’ve spotted a pregnant Rebecca Gayheart smoking a cigarette, and we’ve seen expectant fathers such as Kevin Federline and AJ McLean smoking next to their pregnant partners.

Let’s do our own study.

What did you consume regularly during pregnancy?
