Join Me & Take The Ice Bucket Challenge For ALS

By now many of you have heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and funds for ALS.

In the trending campaign, people are asking 2-3 of their friends to dump a bucket of ice water over their heads. If your friends do not accept the challenge within 24 hours, they must donate $100 to an ALS association of choice.

In the last few weeks, the #IceBucketChallenge has literally soaked some of our favorite celebrities, including Justin Timerlake, Jimmy Fallon and Martha Stewart. Not to mention, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and other business heavyweights such as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Twitter’s Dick Costolo have joined in on the fun.

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Basically, it’s a death sentence.

I am all too well acquainted with this degenerative disease that traps a person’s mind and soul into a motionless body — my own father died of ALS at the age of 54.

I know firsthand the devastation of this disease and I’m thrilled about the buzz that this campaign is receiving. Since this Internet phenomenon began a few weeks ago, the ALS Association has experienced a 1,000 percent increase in donations.

Thanks to my longtime friend Tracey Arnish (who also lost a family member to the disease), I was challenged to join in on the fun.

Check out my #IceBucketChallenge video here.

I am now paying it forward and challenging six people (I’m a rule-breaker that way) to do the same: my brother Jeff Schafer, Hollywood insider GG Benitez, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks, Real Housewives of O.C. star Tamra Judge, Hollywood mom Courtney Lopez, and my boss, the founder of Celebrity Baby Scoop, Lisa Weber.

You’ve got 24 hours folks!

And I’m unofficially nominating everyone who reads this article! Join in on the fun and challenge your friends and family as well.

If you would like to make a donation in honor of my late father, Jim Schafer, please donate here.
