Having a baby is extremely hard on the female body, but the reward at the end when baby arrives is worth every ache and pain that we experience, isn’t it?
But what about the extra weight that many of us gain when we are pregnant? For some, it’s easy to lose the baby weight and then-some, but for many (i.e. ME) it’s not so simple.
During the second trimester in my last pregnancy, I sought out assistance to help prepare me for delivery as well as getting me back into pre-pregnancy shape. After researching a number of options, I decided to order Erica Ziel’s Knocked-Up Fitness Prenatal and Postnatal Workouts on DVD.
When the fitness DVD’s arrived at my house, I was out-of-shape, but excited!
Let me first tell you my experience with Erica’s Knocked-Up Fitness Prenatal Pilates-infused Workouts. Aside from the fact that I could wear whatever I wanted in the comforts of my own home, I loved that Erica broke the workouts into short little segments between 8-20 minutes each. This was so helpful for me because I had a one-year old baby to look after and sometimes 8-minutes was all the time that I had to spare.
The 2-DVD set came with seven different workouts that I mixed and matched. The DVD set also included a yellow band to assist with some of the upper body exercises. An exercise ball (not included) would have been great to have for some of the exercises, but since I didn’t have one I just modified the exercise as best I could.
A lot of the exercises targeted my core muscles. I believe this helped a lot in preventing back pain – yes, I still experienced some back pain, but I’m sure it would have been a lot worse had there not been such a focus on strengthening my core.
The part that I love most about the Knocked-Up Fitness Prenatal Fitness DVD’s is that Erica, who was pregnant herself during the filming of the DVD, focused all the exercises towards a pregnant female. She knows that sometimes during pregnancy we aren’t going to be feeling too hot, but she encourages us to do the best that we can.
I ended up having a C-section again for baby #2 so my post-natal exercise regime didn’t start until just recently, but I’m enjoying the Knocked-Up Fitness After Baby Pilates-Infused Functional Workouts.
I really appreciate that it’s got three different levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced. At this point I am still at the beginner level. As I get stronger I have other workouts that I can introduce to help get me back to my pre-pregnancy body. And just like the Knocked-Up Fitness Prenatal Fitness DVDs, the After Baby workouts are short in length – some as little as 8-minutes in duration all the way to 27-minutes in duration.
It’s also great that I have a 17-month old workout partner. My darling daughter loves to do the downward dog (aka. Pyramid in baby terms) with me and really likes the core workouts. I like the core workouts too, but when we are exercising together, I think she gets more of a workout climbing all over me and playing. I suppose I’m still getting a mid-section workout because I’m laughing a lot while we exercise!
The Knocked-Up Fitness After Baby DVD set also includes a Bonus: Workout Booklet. This booklet provides some health tips for us mamas as well as a workout schedule for each fitness level. Erica suggests starting slow and eventually working our way up to walking 30 minutes or more most days of the week. The Beginner Workout program has workouts ranging from 27 to 43 minutes in duration, the Intermediate Workout program ranges from 36 to 54 minutes and the Advanced workouts range from 32 to 49 minutes.
Pretty awesome that you can get a great workout tailored to new mamas that are less than 60 minutes in length – and I don’t even have to leave my living room!
