Don’t call me old, but I recently rocked my 20 year high school reunion.
Shocking, I know, since I don’t look a day over 32.
But the truth is, my fellow grads and I are pushing 40 – as well as trying our best to fight lowered metabolism – and recently gathered in our small Canadian hometown.
Was I nervous? Hell yes!
But my one and only ex-boyfriend from high school was not in attendance (OF COURSE I was sure to find out prior to the event), so there was nothing to be nervous about, right?!
It turned out to be an amazing evening, with a full-on dinner and dance, door prizes and fun photo booth to showcase our copious wine consumption.
Not only was the event a success, it was an amazing opportunity to make peace with your past.
Let’s just say I wasn’t at my peak of maturity back in my high school days.
And while we’ve all moved on from many of our high school friendships, the evening proved to be the perfect platform for levelling the playing field with many of my old pals.
Do I even remember how/why our friendships faded? Hell no, it’s been 20 years! But I was reminded why we were friends in the first place.
From my friend who is now a professional gambler (how cool is that?), to an old party pal who is now working on her master’s in nursing, to one of my closest friends back in the day who is now a mom-of-two boys, it was amazing to catch up with everyone.
And not to mention, some of my best friends to this day are from high school.
One thing’s for sure: I was glad for the name tags!
There were so many unfamiliar faces in the crowd — and yes, lots of people did not remember me either. Let’s not forget that I wasn’t exactly empowered yet, and had zero self-esteem back in those days. So it’s no surprise that I appeared/spoke/looked a lot different 20 years ago.
And of course, I have discovered fitness and hair products, thank the good goddess!
Did you go to your 20-year reunion? Did you love it or hate it?
