Life’s Simple Questions: Can You Answer Them?

I was inspired to write a very short and ‘simple’ blog post today.

The more I chat with my thirty-something pals, the more I wonder if any of us really know who we are.

Are we reaching our goals? Are we even setting goals? Are we evolving into the women we want to be? Do we even care?

How disconnected from ourselves – from life – are we?

So I pose these ‘simple’ life questions to you all.

  • Who are you?
  • What do you want in life?

Sure, this seems simple and straight-forward.

But for that first ‘simple’ question, did you answer with labels such as “mother, wife, daughter,” or “teacher, stay-at-home mom, writer,” and so on?

Have you ever thought that you’re more than just your marital status or job? Way more? What are your unique skills and talents? What is your level of self-awareness?

Who are you, really?

Are you connected with the woman you are? Have you made peace with your past and honored your journey? Have you forgiven yourself and become the loving woman you want to be?

Did you ever stop to consider that you are a miracle? You know, just like your own babies are miracles?! Have you considered that you are a soul having a human experience on the planet? If so, how is that working out for you so far?

And in response to the second ‘simple’ question, did you answer things like “happiness, love, health, wealth” and so on?

Have you ever stopped to consider how you are going to acquire those positive things in your life?

Have you been accustomed to getting things handed to you? Have you ever considered that in order to create the life of your dreams, you will have to envision it, set goals, and work for it?

Or maybe you’ve never even given ‘what you want’ much thought? Maybe you’re simply used to ‘going through the motions’ of life?

The above questions seem ‘simple,’ but were you able to answer them with certainty, pride, truth and with a sense of accomplishment?

Please share your answers in the comments. I hope to write a follow-up story with your thoughts/ideas.

For me, developing my spiritual understanding and foundation has been key – this leads me to know and focus on what’s most important in life. I try to focus on who I am Being rather than what I am Doing. From here, I connect with who my authentic self is, cultivate loving relationships and do things that I am passionate about – leading me to feel that I am living in a meaningful way. This doesn’t mean life doesn’t throw the hard stuff at me- it does for all of us – but when that happens I feel the emotions that are present for me (even if its the tough ones like sadness, fear etc), focus on how I can respond to what’s happening and gather support around me. Key to life for me, now in my mid-30’s, is being grateful for all that I have in my life.
