This absolutely breaks my heart!
One Florida father has some serious explaining to do after the following video of him kicking his 6-year-old son off the edge of a skateboarding ramp has gone viral.
According to First Coast News, the dad claims he pushed his son to teach his budding skateboarder a lesson: “He said ‘because he needs to learn,’ ” the 13-year-old videographer said after approaching the father.
The response of the teen who took the video?
“[I said to the dad] pushing him down is not teaching him how to drop in.” When the dad said, “Do you think you can raise him better than me?,” the teen replied with a “Yes.”
Good for him!
Unfortunately, this appears to be another case of parents taking their kids’ sports way too seriously and pushing their children too far.
Where I’m from, hockey is practically a religion. Yes, I’m from Canada — the land of the Great White North, Barenaked Ladies, toques and Hosers. So “hockey parents” have quite the reputation, and this “skateboarding dad” could learn a thing or two from this great sign spotted at an ice rink…
And an update on the skateboarding dad? The Florida Department of Children and Families has been notified and is investigating the incident.
What do you think? Did this dad go way too far?
